Cold Spring Bakery

The bakery was started in 1946 by Mel and Floss Schurman.  In 1986, ownership of the bakery transferred to the second generation of the family.  The bakery is presently owned and managed by Dale, Lynn and Brian Schurman.

The original bakery was on the corner of Red River and Main Streets (about where the Red River Inn’s kitchen is presently.)  The present building was built in 1949 with additions in 1965, 1971 and the mall being added in 1985.  In 2000, the bakery added another 1400 square feet of production space.

The Cold Spring Bakery sells half of its products retail and the other half is sold wholesale, primarily through small supermarkets in the area.  The distribution area includes Watkins, Eden Valley, Paynesville, Spicer, Willmar, Sauk Centre, Avon, St. Joe and St. Cloud.  The bakery also delivers wedding cakes throughout the Central Minnesota area and some into the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.

The Cold Spring Bakery employs about 60 people, which includes a number of part time employees.

The bakery is a full service bakery producing cakes, donuts, buns, breads, cookies and many other types of pastries and specializing in wedding and special occasion cakes.
