How do I become a Police Officer?

The state of Minnesota regulates Police Officers throughout the state with the Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training Board (POST).  POST is a state board that consists of members appointed by the Governor who maintain the rules on becoming a Police Officer, enforce training guidelines on Officers after they are appointed to a position within the state and watch over all Police Departments in Minnesota. The Minnesota POST Board was established in 1977 and was the first law enforcement occupational licensing system in the United States.

Simply put, MN POST standards are among the toughest in the United States, MN POST is one of the only state boards that require at least a two-year college degree for all Police Officers in the state (many states only require a high school diploma); however out of state Officers may apply for reciprocity.  For more information on MN POST and how to become a Police Officer in Minnesota you should visit their website:
